8 Lessons About Advocacy I Learned From Nelson Mandela

Among the chaos and rush of life, it’s easy to lose sight of our passion and forget the power of our voices in creating change.

July 18th is Nelson Mandela Day and it’s a day when the world celebrates his extraordinary life and legacy. So we took the chance to reflect on the lessons Mandela taught us and how he continues to inspire our work of ending extreme poverty.

Lesson 1: There is hope for humanity.

Lesson 2: You are capable of more than you think.

Lesson 3: Fear exists. Conquer it.

Lesson 4: Your liberation is tied with the freedom of others.

Lesson 5: Recognize that everyone is different and approach people where they are at.

Lesson 6: Introspection and reflection will help you grow.

Lesson 7: Do the thing. But plan it out first.

Lesson 8: No matter what, keep moving forward towards a brighter future!

Nelson Mandela embodies a hope that lies within all of us. A hope for a world free from poverty, disease, and inequality. While Nelson Mandela Day is celebrated on July 18th, his words and his legacy remain relevant and true every day.
